HPV Gold Coast Pedal Prix

Last Thursday 8th May the Junior HPV Teams travelled to Pimpama on the Gold Coast. Leaving at the insane hour of 4:30am we drove to Pimpama via Fernvale. Upon arrival we set up our pit area and got our trikes scrutineered to ensure they were up to standard and ready to race.
We had 15 students compete as two teams in two separate categories (Junior Boys and Junior Mixed). We were pumped and ready to race at 9:45am for a 10am start to our 4 hour race. Our first riders Jess Frohloff and Matthew Springate set off at a blistering pace overtaking trikes left and right. Unfortunately at the 25minutes mark just as our teams were preparing for their first rider changeover the officials announced that there was a problem with the transponders (the magical devices that record how many laps each team has completed) and half of the field had not had their laps counted. After a short intermission the transponders were moved and fixed on a number of trikes. We restarted with fresh riders for the new 3 hour race! Jericho Pogany and Ryan Jones started us off this time and again showed everyone what Nanango is made of.
At the end of the day after a few mishaps we ended up with the Junior Boys finishing 9th (with a total of 96 laps) in their category. The Junior Mixed finished third in their category with a total of 93 laps.
We want to say a massive thank you to our mechanic Mr Ashby (aka Grover) and his friend Sean for all of their help and to Mr Bellingham for driving us to and from the event.
