HISTORY

Nanango State High School was established in 1982 as a consequence of the sudden growth in population arising from the construction of the Tarong Power Station.

In recent years the district's population has continued to grow in response to rural sub-division. The availability of relatively inexpensive acreage has attracted new settlers from urban areas throughout Australia.

The School is characterised by attractive, spacious grounds and modern facilities. Visitors frequently comment on the caring atmosphere within the school and on the obvious pride displayed by the community towards the school. Nanango State High serves an extensive geographical area which includes the townships of Nanango, Yarraman, Blackbutt, Benarkin, Cooyar and Maidenwell. Students from Yarraman P-9 join our school for Year 10, 11 and 12.

As the sole source of senior secondary schooling education in the Nanango Shire the school aims to meet the diverse needs of the community. At present the school caters for on average 600 students.
